ASHER WAS NERVOUS FOR the first time in a long time he didn’t know why this party was rattling him so. It was just a meet and greet followed by dinner. Maybe it was because their future was going to be there. It would be the first time they’d actually met. They saw her picture and talked on the phone once or twice. She seemed like a sweet girl. Asher sighed she was half their age. He knew it shouldn’t make a difference. Taylor was half Chase’s age, and they were perfectly happy. Then again they were mates.

Asher figured that’s what was bothering him. Lavender wasn’t their mate. ‘Of course, that’s the problem. We don’t want her, we want a mate like Chase.’ His dragon protested for the thousandth time. Chase told him to shut it like he always did and went back to his mirror. He tried the tie again, and it was lopsided.

Hayden came into his room. For now, they kept separate bedrooms unless they had a woman over. Once they married, they would all share one room and one oversized bed. All of their lives were about to change. Hayden looked at him and shook his head. “I can hear your thoughts down the hall,”

“Sorry,” Asher apologized as Hayden moved in front of him to tie his tie. “You won’t hate me for the rest of our lives for making us do this will you?”

“No, Asher. We’ve been through this, it’s necessary. We both knew it from the moment we started the negotiations. It’s the only way to assure the peace. She is pretty at least and can hold a conversation. We can figure the rest out.” He stepped away revealing a perfect bowtie. His dragon was working to relieve his anxiety as well.

“Lavender should have stayed with us. We could have got to know her,” Asher protested for the tenth time since Chase called to tell them the news.

“Asher, just stop. Take a deep breath and let’s go,”
